About Verde Nexus
We are what development work needs and rarely gets: a practice that holds strategy, evidence, technology, and capability in the same room, accountable to the same outcome.
Solving systems problems is routinely called "innovation." A new program. A new tool. A new approach. The development sector produces these in abundance, and calls them innovative before asking whether they change anything.
Invention and innovation are not the same thing. Invention is a new idea. Innovation is a new idea that works — that produces measurable change and can sustain that change at scale.
The distinction matters because it changes what you build. If your goal is invention, you need creativity and funding. If your goal is innovation, you need three things simultaneously — and if any one of them is missing, you get zero.
Verde Nexus Operating Thesis
Invention
A new idea, approach, or solution. The sector is reasonably good at generating these. The problem starts here — because the sector stops here.
Impact
The invention must change something measurable in the world. Not outputs. Not activities. A decision that shifts, a system that behaves differently, lives that change.
Profit
Viability and scale. The invention must be economically sustainable and replicable without the original team. Not charity-dependent indefinitely. Not a permanent pilot.
The × operator is intentional. Multiplication, not addition. If any factor equals zero — no impact, no viability, no scalable model — the result is zero. A brilliant invention that changes nothing is zero. An intervention that works once but cannot scale is zero. The sector produces a great deal of zero and calls it innovation.
Most development work sits in one of these rows. Very little reaches the last one.

If innovation requires Invention × Impact × Profit simultaneously, you cannot produce it by handing work across separate disciplines and hoping the handoffs hold. Strategy without evidence doesn't know if the invention works. Evidence without capability doesn't change how the organisation decides. AI without either automates what was already broken.

Rashed has spent 13 years building and managing programmes where the gap between a good design and a changed system is everything. He managed a USD 22 million multi-country development portfolio across Bangladesh, Myanmar, Timor-Leste, Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan — coordinating 150+ specialists across five countries. He built the BYEAH enterprise support network from the ground up, increasing earnings for 500 entrepreneurs by 75% within a year. He now leads Verde Nexus with a focus on green economy transition, AI-enabled organisations, and investment readiness for social enterprises.

Tashfiq has spent 16 years designing research that moves decisions, not just informs them. He won the 2014 OECD DAC Prize — the highest recognition in development effectiveness — for work on market systems that showed what actually changes when an intervention reaches its target. He led Katalyst, a CHF 32 million market systems programme, and has designed field-based evaluations for ILO, USAID, WorldFish, IRC, CARE, World Vision, and DFAT. His operating principle: research designed around what the researcher finds answerable is not research — it is noise.
